Podcast Reflection
I have never made a podcast before and I was pretty nervous going into this assignment. However, it was actually a fairly easy task that I enjoyed doing. The most challenging part of it was probably just getting in the right head-space that would allow me to be comfortable talking about my paper and my story for a long time. But once I started talking it felt very natural. The most interesting aspect of it was getting to use the sound booth. I've always been interested in music and producing so being able to use the studio was really cool and I hope I use it again someday although I was a little scared that I was going to break something. For this project, my composition process was kind of the same as it normally is. I wasn't one hundred percent sure of everything that I wanted to say but just like writing, as soon as I started talking, I was able to figure out what I wanted to say on the spot. Composing this project for a different audience allowed for the tone to be different. Instead of employing the tone that one would use when writing a paper, I was able to use a more casual tone which I enjoyed doing. It was fun to be able to just have a conversation about a story from my childhood while also completing a project. The message of the project changed as well because we had to collaborate and combine our stories to find a message that worked for both of our stories. This was surprisingly easy to do because our stories were somewhat similar but this is something that I wouldn't have had to do if it wasn't for the podcast directed towards the audience of UA students. Being that it was a podcast assignment, this allowed for us to include music and some sound effects that we could obviously not put onto paper. I really enjoyed the inclusion of these elements because it utilizes the fact that you are listening to the project and it keeps the listener on their toes and engaged. Another thing that we had to change from our papers was the organization. Being that it is a podcast and you are telling your story to both the listeners and your partners, your partner is going to have some questions about your story. This is something that was not included in the organization of the paper but it made sense to have it in the podcast. Overall, I really enjoyed the story telling aspect of this project and the creative liberties that went along with it.
